Wigan take the spoils with last kick of the game

Wigan welcomed Liverpool St Helens to Douglas Valley in their third meeting of the season, having already played two fixtures, one cup game and one league game, on the wrong side of Billinge Hill.
With the sides closely matched in the league table, and Wigan having took the spoils in the previous two meetings, the Douglas Valley faithful were hopeful of regaining some momentum that has been lacking in recent weeks.
However, it was LSH who drew first blood. A series of penalties saw the away side with an attacking lineout. The ball was taken in and mauled close before being taken over the line from just yards out.
LSH came looking to play a tight game and kept the ball well in the pack. Hard yards gained took the pack close again and they drove over for another score, which was duly converted for a 0-12 lead after 15 minutes.
Wigan looked rattled and were under pressure on their own line once again. Logan Astley, with ball in hand, spotted a gap and made an initial break before finding Jack Proffitt on the outside. Proffitt made the lions share of the ground before finding Tom Seabrook in space who scored from 30 yards for a 5-12 score at half time.
After the break, Wigan looked the better side with ball in hand, but were unable to break the LSH defensive line. Sustained pressure brought a Wigan penalty and Mason Fillingham slotted the 3 points.
Jack Proffitt, having a great game for the home side, started a move on half way which saw him break through and challenge the full back, before finding Luke Sutcliffe on his inside. Sutcliffe moved the ball away from the chasing defenders and it was Logan Astley who was on the end of the final pass to score under the sticks. Fillingham added the conversion to give Wigan a 15-12 lead.
With 10 minutes to go, LSH showed that they were capable of moving the ball in the backline. A blindside move caught Wigan napping and the finish from 30 yards out gave the visitors the lead at 15-17.
Wigan went back on the front foot, and despite dogged defence from the men from St Helens, they managed to force a penalty and with the last kick of the game, Mason Fillingham slotted home the 3 points for a 18-17 win and clean sweep of 3 wins from 3 over the Saints men.
