Game of the year - so far

Players: Both Patricks, Brandan, Chris, Isabella, Francis, James, Kian, Connor, George, Harris, Daniel, Nathan

Pitch: In the far corner

Weather: Cold and dry

Every time a report is written about the U10s, mention is made of it being their best performance of the year. This week it really is true. They were excellent.

Taking their flowing form from previous weeks onto their own paddock, the boys were involved in a bruising encounter. Like an NRL game where both sides agreed not to hold back in the tackle. It was tight and they didn't win - but they played really well.

Altrincham were a good side, well organised and strong in the tackle. Yet time after time the Wigan boys showed real courage and got up off the canvas to come back at them. No-one typified this will to win more than Man of the Match Daniel. He took the ball in hard, ran straight and tackled really well. Brandan was his usual all-action self whilst Harris and Nathan showed real class in attack. Nathan indeed scored two tries that really "took some scoring".

Special mention must also go to James, Isabella and Kian for their excellent work - Kian scoring two of the most memorable tries of the season - unstoppable.

The game finished 7-6 but there was nothing to choose between them. The refereeing was very impressive and now the boys are that bit older, the size of the sticks that the substitutes found during the second half was also worthy of note.

An excellent morning all round - a Mothers' Day special.
