Wigan U10s welcomed Fleetwood to Douglas Valley

Fleetwood were keen and were already in warm-up drill on the pitch before the Wigan squad had fully assembled. With the weather worsening, we got under way.

The first half was hard fought but fairly even, with Wigan looking slightly more of a threat. All players suffering with the very cold wind and heavy rain. Massive effort was needed by all players with the teams so evenly matched, and so determined to attack and defend with everything. There was some great play by both sides, and some particularly good tackling.

After a team talk Wigan built on their first half efforts, and it was Kyle who opened the scoring. Soon after William came on and added a second. Fleetwood came back though and whilst they had had to fight to get into the Wigan half, they coasted the last quarter of the pitch as Wigan couldn't summon the energy to stop them. Christian scored Wigan's 3rd with a powerful run up the middle after William had opened things up. Luca later made a great run showing just how strong a runner he can be, but unfortunately he didn't score this time.

Fleetwood, having made a significant journey, wanted more, and whilst Wigan, understandably, just wanted to call it a day and go to get warm indoors, nine brave players agreed to face Fleetwood for another game. Unfortunately at half time, the weather had got the better of even these, and play had to be abandoned.

If we'd kept a tally of how many home / away supporters' umbrellas got written off, that would have been a much higher scoring match.
