DV welcomed a large squad from Broughton Park, which would have been larger still had some of their payers not got lost on the way.

Very cold, damp conditions sent the hands of many players hiding up their sleeves. A much needed warm-up got under way, and at 11:15 having called time on the visitors’ lost players, the match got under way.

The visitors started with the ball, but some great early tackling from Wigan soon gave them possession, and William’s break opened the scoring.

But Wigan immediately took their foot off the gas, giving their opponent space and ‘Park soon equalised.

The next Wigan attack was foiled close to the line, and possession switched a number of times, with play being close to the ‘Park line. The visitors made a breakaway, but William managed to get across and put in a great tackle.

A great tackle from Harry, following a ‘Park line-out gave Wigan the ball, and although they managed to cross the line, the ball was spilled. Another period was played out deep in the ‘Park half, and eventually Kyle forced his way through for a well-earned try.

Broughton came back and looked like equalizing, but some great tackling from Wigan, especially by Jacob, along with some determined competing for the ball eventually gave Brad possession, and he made a break up the right wing from his own half, for a try.

Broughton kept up the attacking play with some good movement, but they were kept out, again principally by numerous tackles from Jacob. ‘Park got close to the line, and Wigan had to dig deep for some last-ditch defending. Mack got on the ball and made a great break, much to the relief of his team. Unfortunately he was bundled into touch on the half way line. Shortly afterwards the first half was brought to an end.

Score at the break 3-1

Wigan started the second half with a fine solo try from Kyle who powered straight through the visitors. Brimming with confidence, Wigan exhibited some impressive play, in all areas from rucking to passing, and movement, giving the ball some air. Rewards were soon to come with a 3rd try for Kyle.

Showing great spirit, ‘Park were knocking on the door for a try for several minutes. Each time Wigan got the ball they were held close to their own line, any breaks snuffed out. Kyle saved a try right on the line, but the waves of attack kept coming. Eventually ‘Park found a hole and went over for a 2nd.

From the restart Christian made a great run down the middle but was held just short. Myles finished off the effort.

Some fluent play from ‘Park, against a Wigan now looking cold and tired, was rewarded by a 3rd try for the visitors.

Myles made a good powerful run, and almost got his 2nd. Following a scrum, Harry made a dash for the line, but was tackled a yard short. Showing typical determination he somehow managed to stretch his arm to double its normal length to get the ball down one-handed.
