Hard fought win see Wigan make it 4 from 4

Wigan travelled today to Leigh for Round 4 of the Lancashire Cup
Apologies for the delay in this report, but here are the highlights

First half

It only to 4 mins Leigh before Ligh were in with numbers on left wing, conversion missed 5-0

After 9 mins Wigan were back in it, a good pick from back of scrum by Tom and out to Joss who scored 5-5

However Leigh were strong and Wigan sometimes a bit frail in defence and Leigh stormed back into the lead with two tries on 12 and 15 mins, the latter under the posts and converted 17-5

Wigan then showed some resolve and after 22mins Isaac looked to be in but was adjudged to be held up over line, scrum Wigan
A good scrum, out to Owen F and in under posts, good pressure, Joss added extras 17-12

On 29 mins after some good team play Logan gets over on right to level scores, Joss fails to add. 17-17

Leigh then applied some more pressure to the Wigan Line, Wigan awarded a penalty but Leigh were then given scrum after Billy takes penalty ahead of mark. From the scrum Leigh end up with a knock on in backs, Owen F picks up out to Isaac then Logan who kicks ahead and caught on full by Sam C who scores a spectacular try under posts and Joss adds extras.

Half time and Wigan just edging a great game of rugby 17-24

Second Half

After only 3 mins and great determination and team work see Billy over on left, Joss just misses, 17-29

Leigh though also show determination and after 7 minutes get one back. In on left, conversion missed 22-29

The referee then shows a couple of yellow cards, Max , apparently for repeated offside and 2 minutes later the Leigh full back for high tackle, 14 players a side now

After 15 mins Billy is over in corner. Joss follows with a superb conversion from the side 22-36

Another yellow card, this time Ben. Poor tackling from Wigan stopping them from putting this game to bed.

With only a handful of minutes left Wigan awarded a penalty which calms the nerves and Joss cooly takes the points, 22-39

And that is how it ended. All in all a good game, importantly a win but highlighting plenty of areas for improvements.

Today’s squad: Tim, Sam P, Ethan, Max, Toby, Ben, Owen C, Tom, Joss, Sam C, Kieron F, Logan, Owen F, Isaac, Billy, Cameron, James, Lewis, Luc, Kieron R
