Tough test passed.

Today we welcome Ellesmere Port to the Valley, Wigan narrowly won the corresponding fixture over the last 2 seasons so it promised to be a tough fixture, which is just what the team needs in preparation for the first round of the cup next week.

The home team just managed to field a full team with no reserves so the lads knew they were in for a stern test against a hefty looking set of forwards.

And so it proved, a tight start with both teams battling well in wet conditions but after 7 minutes a quickly taken penalty Sam C crosses the paint for the opening score, and Joss adds the extras 7-0

The home team settled a bit after that and on 12 minutes after some good pressure Ethan drove over for an excellent try, this time unconverted. 12-0

Ellesmere Port though came back at Wigan but the defence was strong and after a kick towards the Wigan goal line sparked a great team score. Billy picked up and returned the ball well to the half way finding support from the pack, the ball was driven forward and then out along the backs up to the 22, Joss then spotted a gap, kicked through and brilliantly followed it to touch down on 17 minutes to make it 17-0.

Wigan then finished off the half with another great try from Ethan this time over in the right corner on 28 minutes

Half time 22-0

Ellesmere Port came out for the second half with renewed vigour, but the home team tackled hard and didn't give much.

After 6 mins a well worked backs move created the overlap that allowed James to cross the line in the left corner, this time Joss judged the kick perfectly and extended the lead to 29-0

After 18mins Billy scored over on the right to move the score to 34-0.

Ellesmere Port didn't once let their heads drop and kept going hard at Wigan and were rewarded with a consolation try on 22 minutes.

A couple of chances went begging for Ethan to get his hat trick that would have been great to see.

That's how the score stayed until the end, and the Wigan 15 knew they'd been in a match and were all looking weary but happy.

Final Score 34-5

Great team effort. No MOM awarded this week but great show from Ethan
