CHAMPIONS

Aldwinians in Audenshaw, East Manchester were hosts for the Lancs Cup Finals day where the U15s opponents Warrington RUFC were undefeated all season.

1.15 K.O., Wigan played up the slope and against the breeze in the first half had a full squad turnout as well as a good turn out of supporters too

The first few minutes saw both defences test each other but most of the play was in the Wigan half as Warrington took advantage of the breeze. Wigan slowly got the nmeasure of the game and worked their way up the pitch and were rewarded on 9 mins with a great try as Isaac powered over on the right wing. Joss made a good effort to convert but the unpredictable breeze meant it fell just short. 5-0

5 minutes later though Warrington equalised and to Wigan’s relief then failed with the extras. 5-5

The teams were even and tested each other, Wigan were awarded a penalty on 20 mins which although tough, proved to be well within Joss’ capabilities and Wigan regained the lead at 8-5.

2 minutes later though and Warrington were also awarded what seemed a more straightforward penalty but pulled their attempt wide.

That’s how the scores remained through to half time 8 – 5

Wigan had the slight slope and breeze advantage for the second half and took advantage to apply the pressure. After 10 minutes Wigan were awarded a penalty and after some deliberation opted to kick. Joss unusually pulled it wide, Warrington opted to not to put the ball down and run it out. Wigan’s defence was good however and were awarded a penalty for Warrington not releasing. Reg took the penalty quickly and caught the opposition napping but still powered over for a great try that Joss converted. 15-5.

Wigan then started to dominate the game and had Warrington on the back foot. A good back move saw the ball out to Samson who crossed to score on the left wing sustaining a high tackle in the process to be awarded a penalty try to get the full 7 points. 22-5

Warrington weren’t done yet though and showed some pace and class with a kick and chase to reduce their arrear to 22-12.

Any nerves from Wigan were relieved when they were awarded a penalty and extended the lead to 25-12.

Only a few more moments for Wigan to hold on before the final whistle and the celebrations to begin.
