Strong performance from the U15s

Wigan welcomed Lymm U15s to the Valley on a chilly but sunny autumn day perfect for rugby.

Lymm got the better of Wigan in this fixture last season so the boys were keen to reverse the result

Lymm opted to play up the slope in the first half. The match kicked off with Lymm on the front foot and applying all the pressure on the home side, but the defence held tight albeit uncomfortably close to the try line. The defence proved solid.

The home side slowly started to gel and after 11 minutes an excellent move that involved the whole team showed great skill and backing up, eventually Sam P picking one up off his bootlaces to go over to open he scoring near the posts. Billy kicked the extra 2 to take a 7-0 lead .

Good team play again resulted in Wigan's next try, the forwards starting to make good inroads into the Lymm defense, followed by a great step from Logan, today playing at stand off, and breezed through a gap to score under the posts after 17 minutes. Billy added the two and the score at 14-0.

Wigan started to dominate possession at this point and another good move saw Toby reap due reward and power over near the right corner, Billy just missing the extras. 19-0

Lymm regrouped after this and the match became much more even but a spot of mercurial excellence from Billy down the right wing saw him score on the right and convert to take the score to 26-0 which it remained 'til half time

Lymm came out with renewed vigour in the second half and much as in the first they pressured the Wigan defense, to be rewarded with a try after 5 minutes. There followed a bit of handbags between both sides and the ref dispatched 2 Lymm players and 3 Wigan to the sin bin. After the pause in play Lymm missed the conversion as it bounced off the post.

The spectacle of the game was now lost and only to report that Kian went over after 9 minutes, Samson converted. Billy went over after 20 minutes, unconverted and the final whistle went amidst more handbags with Wigan winning 38-5.

Wigan played really well in the first half and the teamwork was excellent. The team let themselves down with their discipline in the second half regardless of who instigated what you need to avoid these situations.

As Phil and Des said after the match, there are no excuses and you only let yourselves down.

Squad: Tim, Sam P , Ethan, Logan, Sam C, Owen, Ben G, Max, James, Samson, Kieron R, Xander, Tom, Billy, Isaac, Luke, Kian & Ben H
