62-5

Today the team welcomed Chester RUFC to the Valley, nice crisp morning after heavy overnight rain and hail.
The team were to christen their new strip and I'm sure Tim will add the photos soon.
Xander made a welcome return after long term injury.

Wigan were off the mark quickly and a move down the back line saw Billy kick into space behind the Logan unable to tae advantage but good back up saw Sam P over to open the scoring after 1 minute, Joss (con) 7-0

On 4 minutes Ethan was at the end of another good move to move the score onto 12-0

Chester were spirited but unable to cope with some good Wigan movement and support and again after 9 mins a flowing move through most of the team saw Billy in on the right, followed by an excellent conversion from Joss taking the score to 19-0

Tom caught the ball from the subsequent kick off and with a blistering solo effort showed great determination and speed to break through the opposition defence for an excellent try under the posts, Joss (con) 26-0

After 16 minutes Sam C got into the act with a typical step step go solo effort again under the posts. Joss (con) 33-0

Wigan continued their dominance with a nice move from the lineout, along the line and Logan delivering a lovely kick for Billy. Joss converted to take the score at half time to 40-0

The second half started in much the same vein, after 2 mins Owen took advantage of a gap in the Chester defence to dart through to score, again Joss reliable with the boot adding the extras 47-0

after 4 mins a great run from Reg commited Chester's forwards and good distribution down the back line saw Samson score on the far right. Reg had a go at the kick and only just came up short. 52-0

After a retaken restart Tim broke through the defensive line and ran half of the pitch just to be denied but had the presence of mind to get up and make the ball available for recycling and shipping across to the other side where Sam P popped up for another score, this converesion attempt missed by Kian 57-0.

Chester then mounted a good spell of pressure, their forwards keeping the Wigan pack honest and managed to bundle over a try on 14 minutes which went unconverted. 57-5

A bit more pressure from Chester but Wigan were able to turn defence into attack and Logan benefited from some good team play to go over on 18 minutes, Billy shanking an attempted drop conversion.

The ref blew for time at this point at the request of the opposition coach

Final Score 62-5

Sad news that the injury to Ben Hornby was confirmed as a broken collarbone, we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you back soon.

Well done lads, good support play all round, good team spirit and lots of positives to be taken from today's game, however a stern test next week in the cup against Waterloo in the cup.
