Hard fought win against tough oppositions

The Lancs Cup Round 2 saw Wigan travel to Stocport as Heaton Moor welcomed us to their ground.
Great day for a game of rugby. Heaton Moor were sure to be tough opponents after their win last week away at Waterloo.
Only able to field sixteen today the squad were sure to be tested to the full.

Wigan started slowly and were soon on the back foot and conceded a converted try after only 3 mins to fo 7-0 down. Playing into the breeze Wigan remained under strong Heaton Moor pressure but managed on one foray into the opponents half to string a good back move together for Billy to score in the corner which Logan unfortunately couldn't convert. 7-5 (7mins)

Heaton Moor continued their pressure, Max unfortunately taking a smack in the nose from a bot after forcing his opponent into touch (10min blood bin). The battle on the field was intense even if a bit stop/start without ether side really exerting themselves.

After 28 minutes a good move from Heaton Moors No 8 saw him force his way over, and the subsequent conversion saw them extend the lead to 14-5.

The last play of the first half saw captain Sam P drive through for a great try showing his determination. Logan unfortunately again closely missed the extras.

Half Time 14-10

Second half

With the breeze behind them Wigan started to play more in their opponents half, and were rewarded after 3 minutes with a great try form a run from Kieron R. This time Billy added the extras to see Wigan edge into the lead for the first time 14-17.

The forwards were now getting the measure of Heaton Moor and were getting good second and third phase possession keeping Moor honest and allowing the backs opportunities to stretch their line. After 9mins a good slowing move through the line allowed Billy to touch down near the left corner which he then cooly converted to strech the lead to 14-24.

Heaton Moor weren't done yet though and battled their way back into the game and were rewarded with a try at the left corner. This was unconverted and the scores tight again. 19-24 (14mins)

Both sides now playing well and not much in it, great for those watching. Wigan were awarded a penalty after 25mins and opted for the kick at goal. Billy calmly slotted it and moved just over one score clear at 19-27 with three minutes on the clock.

Three minutes turned into six with added time, and both teams battled hard to get the upper hand but in the end the whistle went.

Great team effort from Wigan against a very strong side, be proud of yourselves.
