Determined Lymm take the plaudits against a home team playing below par.

A fine day at the Valley saw the U14s welcome Lymm RUFC.

From the off, Lymm handled the ball well, passed well and looked threatening, putting Wigan on the back foot and testing the defence. With Joss playing up for U15s in the cup Owen C stepped into the scrum half role making his return after a prolonged absence from the team.
Following a good Wigan scrum Owen fed Sam C who managed a trade mark step to break through the Lymm defence and sprint almost to the line before being tackled well, but good follow up work by Wigan saw Ben dive over for the opening score. James stepped up to take the conversion in Joss' absence but unfortunately hit the upright and it bounced back.
Another great move followed a couple of minutes later when Joe ended up at the end of a good passing move and appeared to be tripped short of the line but still got up and scored. This time Owen unfortunately missed the extras. 10-0
Lymm were not fazed and had confidence in their abilities and were soon back in it after a catch and drive try from the back of the line out. 10-7
This was soon followed by another try as an attempted kick and catch by Sam C was well picked up by Lymm and a strong run through the home defence for an unconverted try.

HT 10-12

Wigan seemed to be back on song at the start of the second half and gelled together well as a team, a great run by Jacob was stopped short. Two more phases by Ethan and Tim finally set up a great driving try by Sam P converted by Owen. 17-12
Soon after this the home side switched off a bit in defence and were punished by two quick tries from Lymm both on the left side. Wigans defence looked a bit disjointed compared to our normal high standards and the stack was a bit flat, allowing Lymm to keep the pressure on.
Wigan did make some headway though and were awarded a penalty when the Lymm player lifted one of the Wigan team off the ground and held him there (not sure of the rules there myself, but I'm sure I'll be told). A quick penalty take by the ever-alert Sam P saw him over for a try again converted by Owen to bring the score back to 24-26.
Time running out and desperate efforts by both sides to win the match, but unfortunately for Wigan it was Lymm who had the last word with another well worked try on the left flank.
In the end it was a fair result and the best team won, but the hurt shown by the Wigan team displayed their disappointment and knowledge that they knew they're able to perform much better.

Thanks to the Lymm team and vocal supporters for coming; hopefully this will become a regular fixture.

To the Wigan team, don't be too down, let's get over the hurt and move on stronger and better, see you at training Wednesday!
