1st versus Fleetwood: Wigan’s usual quick start was evident again (every week I write this) and the first try was scored by Sam after a great run by Josh. The usual zig zag run from James put Wigan two up he really does get quicker every week even the muddy conditions didn’t slow him down. The third try was a lovely bit of rugby union Wigan won the line out and a great push by the pack resulting in Ethan scoring.
We had Reece playing up today who had a magnificent game and from a lovely run knocking off would be tacklers, stepping off one foot onto the other riding a couple of high tackles and somehow against all the odds got the ball over the line only to be cruelly robbed by a very harsh referee if only they were related he would have given it.. hold on..??
The fourth try soon followed again from the line out and the pack (who played magnificently all day) held the ball up and Joe C took the ball over. Fleetwood never got into Wigan’s half for the entire match which is just incredible. Josh added the fifth and Joe C the sixth which took us to half time. The second half was very scrappy at the start as the visitors tried to get back in the game but the ferocious tackling of Sam C, Charley, Jack, Joe W, Tapiwa didn’t allow them. Joe C got the first try of this half after a great run form Josh, James got the third with a run all the way down the wing and after deciding he couldn’t find the posts eventually put the ball down! Sam C scored next in move that saw the ball switch from one wing to the other with Josh involved again. The final try of this match was scored by Reece (the ref did have a long hard look before he gave it, if we had a video ref I am sure he would have used it) after a strong powerful run from Sam C, this boy is strong.
Final score Wigan 10 tries Fleetwood 0
2nd versus Aspull: Same result but a different game in some respects the boy who basically won Aspull the match last year causing the most problems, this time he didn’t score! James got Wigan ‘s first try after a powerful run and then a pass from Joe C. Joe C himself got Wigan’s second after yet another dart by Josh and Joe C on his shoulder with a quick pick up and the a try. Tapiwa was very unlucky not to score with a great run only to be tackled into touch just short of the line. The Aspull attack came all from one lad who was tackling hard and then taken the ball from us, only this year he was doing it but not causing any damage with it, great improvement. A penalty for Wigan 5 yards out allowed Joe C to crash through Aspull’s weak defensive line and Josh made it four tries at half time.
The second half Wigan went to town and notched up seven tries in the half the first from Reece after some good work from Sam C. Ethan took the ball up from 5 yards out from a penalty and went over quite easily and at £5 a try no one was going to stop him. The next penalty Wigan got was in their half and Oliver (playing up from the 9’s) took the ball and managed to wriggle and scamper for a great solo try. The remainder of the match went all Wigan’s way with Joe C. James, Sam C each scoring one more and finally Reece getting his third of the game and Wigans 11th in this match by stealing the ball and scoring right on full time.
Final score Wigan 11 tries Aspull a big fat 0
Tries scorers: Sam C 3, James 4, Ethan 2, Joe C 6, Josh 2, Reece 3, Oliver 1,
