Wigan U9's v Altrincham Kersal

With the sunshine warming the backs of the supporters, Wigan's ever bright U9's took to the field with their usual eagerness to play rugby. With a strong squad, bolstered by their recent southern hemisphere recruit Will and new recruit Oliver, Wigan started the game at full speed with early pressure resulting in quick tries. With the dry weather allowing the passes to flow, Wigan stretched the Altrincham line with fluent handling and great support. With ball in hand the result was at times inevitable, with a succession of tries providing a health lead.

Having the benefit a large squad, Altrincham rotated their team after the first quarter to bring on fresh legs. Wigan however maintained the pressure, picking up where they had left off to extend their lead. With ball in hand the players pushed forward at every opportunity, converting possession to points at every chance. Added to the attacking strength, the defensive display was again faultless leaving very little room for the Altrincham players to get a foot hold in the game despite their continued efforts.

With another deserved win, the players returned for hotdog and chips in the club house and the usual MOM awards. Having showed his usual lightening speed, Dom's elusive footwork and darting runs had not gone unmissed, being awarded Parent's Player. The Coach's Award was again a difficult decision as every player had again put in worth performances. Special mentioned has to go to Oliver, who having never played the game before and with only a few training sessions under his belt had shown great courage to tackle everything that tried to pass him and with some great running had played his part in the morning's victory. However central to the attack and as ever defence, George had contributed throughout the morning leading from the front in his usual fearless approach to take home the covered award.
