Wigan Display Dominant Form

On what was a dull and cloudy day, Wigan's young players put on a sizzling display to warm the cockles of the faithful supporters with a faultless display of attacking and defensive prowess to brighten the day. Having had the previous week off, the team were obviously eager to take to the field to blow off the cobwebs much to the delight of the their parents.

Having run through the pre-match drill with little disruption (a delight for the coaches), the players lined up to play their first game. LSH blessed with numbers were able to field two teams, switching at each interval to ensure everyone got to play and keeping Wigan on their toes. Nevertheless the Wigan players rose to the challenge and from the first whistle took full control of the game with a dominant display in attack and in defence.

Having established an early lead, Wigan's players pressed forward in defence to restrict LSH at every opportunity, forcing turn overs with some great tackling. Each of the players worked tirelessly in the defensive line, at time pushing the opposition backwards towards their own line. Both Wigan coaches looked on with etched smiles, as the realisation that 'they do listen' sank in.

As LSH rotated their teams, the Wigan players never relinquished their control of the game. With an eagerness to defend as a team paying off, the players were rewarded with quick turn over and the opportunity to attack and attack they did. With so fantastic individual running together with some sublime team efforts, they ensured the scoreboard continued to tick over.

As the players settled into their rhythm, the passes and off loads started to flow. With each attack, the players looked to their team mates to work collectively. A clear sign that this group of young players are starting to develop into rugby players and more importantly as a team.

As the final whistle went the players gathered for their usual three cheers and handshakes with the LSH players, who despite the one sided result, never gave up.

Having had chance to reflect on the faultless display of the players, having also managed to keep a clean sheet with their ferocious defensive display, the coaches deliberated this week coaches award and took votes for parents player. With a scintillating performance, the parents award went almost unanimously to new recruit Harvey, who despite never having played rugby before (much to the surprise of everyone watching) tackled with such determination and attacked with the presence of a seasoned player.

With the coaches award still up for grabs, the coaches were spoiled for choice, with every player worthy of the award. Nevertheless one did stand out. Having been the bedrock in mid-field with a great defensive display and dominant attacking game, Harry had showed great leadership and determination, earning him the Coaches Award.

A great performance all round and a big thank you to LSH for their usual hospitality - good luck for the rest of the season.
