Wigan U8's win again for their Mum's on Mother's Day

Wigan welcomed Ashton on Mersey on Sunday morning at Douglas Valley for an early kick off on Mothering Sunday. Despite the late rush of players turning up just prior to kick off, presumably having had to serve breakfast in bed to their Mum's, the team soon rallied together ready to take to the field. As the boys warmed up, news from the side lines was that the opposition may be struggling with numbers. As the team discussed loaning individuals to ensure a match could take place, news reached the eager players that AOM had a full contingent of players and the game was on.

Starting with their usual speed, Wigan's players set off at a swift pace with Dominic running straight and fast to cut through the defence. With early tries on the board, Wigan never eased up and continued to add pressure despite early tags going missing. Zack showed his skill and pace rounding defenders as he went, with Luke again reading the game to take advantage of the available space. Wigan took the first game despite some fantastic individual tries from an AOM team, who never gave up.

Into the second and Wigan, having been asked to "utilise the pass" showed what happens when a coherent back line functions on the pitch. With pass after pass the players settled into an expansive game which resulted in some well worked tries. Despite suffering an injury, Rhys stood strong in defence and maintained his determined approach. Jacob collected numerous tags to force several handovers and Harry pushed hard in attack, crossing the line in a well worked try. Ever dependable, George ran strong and glided down the touch line with his trademark canter.

With a resounding win under their belts, the players gathered for the MOM award back in the club. Again showing his silky hands, Tom C's vision ensured the pampered Mum's witnessed some delightful tries created through some sublime passing, earning him this weeks MOM award.
