U8's dazzle in local tri tournament.

In what seemed to be a break in the seasonal weather conditions, Wigan's U8's welcomed local rivals Leigh and Orrell to a 'mild' Douglas Valley. Strengthened by their new signing of Luke, who had impressed in training and clearly showed his skill and speed during the games, the eager players were quick to establish their usual dominant form. Playing Leigh in their opening game, the two teams exchanged tries in a fast paced game. Always prominent in attack, Zack showed his pace on several occasions to secure a lead which Wigan wouldn't relinquish. With a good start to the morning, the players took a short break before taking on their next opposition - Orrell.

Orrell having only recently re-established their U8's team, meant this was the first meeting of the local rivals. Despite the occasion, this didn't hinder Wigan's young players, whose focus proved too strong for the Orrell side despite some spirited attack. In his first encounter of his old team, Rhys left little room for sentiment, as he pounced on the opportunity to rack up several fantastic tries. Thomas D again dazzled with his darting runs, cutting through the defensive line, backed up with some direct running from Harry whose ability to dominate in the mid field is beginning to set a bedrock for the team to attack on.

Having played both teams, Wigan watch patiently, ready to take to the field again. Playing single halves this allowed a further game against each opposition. Starting strongly as ever, the team took to the field for a further game against Leigh. Not to disappoint the faithful followers (parents and grandparents alike) Wigan started were they had left off. Tom's presence on the field was clear to see and with George taking on his usual role with direct running and steadfast defence, the outcome was a further win.

With a final game pushing into the early afternoon - 12.15pm, at this point some of the faithful were become somewhat less faithful, especially given they had heard the bar shutter being raised. Despite this the players were keen to maintain their winning streak with a final game against Orrell. Dominic's pace and direct running ensured pressure was maintained, as Wigan pushed home a clean sweep in what was a thoroughly fun and exciting morning of rugby. A sight to be hold for the many supporters of each club, and clearly showing the wealth of local talent and support for what is commonly referred to as a southern sport!

Having retreated to the club house for hot dog and chips, the anticipated announcement of this weeks man of the match was obviously causing some excitement as nearly all the played stayed around to see who would be the worthy recipient. This weeks MOM was Jacob, who having showed clear determination and focus together with some direct running, ensured Wigan maintained their winning way.
