U9s tackling is the difference yet again

This week, Tarleton and Sefton were the visitors to Wigan, and played their part in four very competitive matches.

In Nick & Wayne’s team, Toby for the second week in succession stood out with his all-round performance, whilst Jack and Sam worked tirelessly from the scrum half position and in support of their teammates.

Harry B impressed yet again with his direct running – which had his dad nodding like Churchill the insurance dog, and Wilson and Noah were as strong and as fearless as ever in defence.

Max scored some very good tries as per usual – using his strength and pace to exploit space out-wide, but Jonah’s try was possibly try of the day: a long-range effort during which he sidestepped and evaded all seven opposition players.

With a few feisty moments, referee Wayne had to be on his mettle, and a new whistle will surely be on this year's Christmas list – as due to overuse, wear & tear, and age, Wayne’s pea must now be quite small.

Phil and Mark's team started out quite slowly against a large Sefton team, but soon got into their usual pattern, and looked to be well in control by halftime.

Harry H led by example, and gained ground every time he had the ball, as did Finlay with his elusive running, and Fin also excellent in his defence this week – against much bigger opponents.

Alex, as usual, took up the role of scrumhalf, and at one point made a long-range run – in which he was unlucky not to score, whilst Lukus proved difficult to tackle in both matches, and supported his teammates well.

Will produced several strong runs – bursting through for a couple of tries in the process, and Tom and George revelled in a strong Wigan tackling display that brought plaudits from the opposition coaches yet again.

Man of the match however, was Benito, who showed a new found aggressive streak – which, considering his dad’s impeccable discipline record during his playing days, may not be well received at home.

And a big thanks to Ian – our RFU certificated referee, who’s probably now starting to wonder what he’s gotten himself into.

In summary: four very competitive games, but it was the Wigan tackling that made all the difference yet again.
