Under 9s win against Mold and Ruthin

The Under 9s crossed the Welsh border for a triangular fixture with Mold and Ruthin RFC, and despite having to take in Welsh rules and new interpretations of rugby laws – especially surrounding tackles, they came away with two wins: 7 – 5 against Mold, and 5 – 3 against Ruthin.

As it was the start of Halloween week, it’s only fitting that the players were introduced to the dark arts of scrummaging, and the scrums were gratefully received by our pack and scrumhalves of Archie, Kian, Harry & Harry, Will, Benito, Tom, Jack, Alex and Lukus. In fact, Archie found them so enjoyable that he offered to drop the ball a couple of times so they could have some more!

Meanwhile, in the backs, Noah, Sam, Max and Oliver made some good runs and tackled well – helping ensure that Wigan were always in front.

Harry H was the top try scorer this week with a total of 6 – helping him win the Parents’ Man Of The Match. And there were also tries from Benito, Oliver, Wilson and Kian.

Wilson was top tackler, and top passer, and he deservedly got the Coaches’ Man Of The Match award.

Despite some of the alien rule-interpretations, a good day was had by all – although there was a noticeable nip in the air and the coaches’ and parents’ long johns and thermals will soon be making their way out of mothballs again.

Awards:
Top Try Scorer - Harry Harvey
Top Tackler - Wilson Beale
Most Passes – Wilson Beale
Parents’ Man Of The Match – Harry Harvey
Coaches’ Man Of The Match – Wilson Beale
