Another Win For Wigan Under 9s

In this week’s game the Under 9s played Fleetwood at Douglas Valley in a last minute fixture as the original opponents, Old Bedians, couldn't raise a team.

As Fleetwood unfortunately had a couple of last minute drop-outs, Wigan loaned two players per quarter, who – as usual, had their best games of the season whilst playing for the opposition – as all tries for both Wigan and Fleetwood were scored by Wigan players!

The big lads, Archie and Harry yet again had great games, taking the direct, agricultural route toward the try line and linking up with some Harlem Globe Trotters-eque passing,

Finlay, darted, dodged, and ran through legs, throughout the game – much to the delight of the Fleetwood parents, who after he’d played for them, wanted to adopt him. Finlay’s parents are currently in negotiations.

Lukus tackled his heart out; all the while with a song in his heart and a huge smile on his face, and came away with the Parents’ Man of The Match. He also made one mighty cruncher of a tackle near the end of the match.

Sonny scored. Scored again. Then scored a few more – for both sides. He also did quite a bit of tackling. Then scored again. Not surprisingly, Sonny was the day’s top try scorer.

Whilst Kian, in his first ever game of Rugby Union, flattened all in front of him and looked like he’d been playing for years - coming away with Coaches’ Man of The Match.

Oliver demonstrated a sidestep and distribution skills that can only be attributed to his father’s coaching, and likewise Max, who seems to have inherited his father’s guile, turn of pace and athleticism. Max also was the top tackler.

Jack won the award for top passer, whilst Sam ran the ball in with aggression that’s only usually reserved for his brothers, and Tom topped the tackle count for the three of them.

Benito – Mr Reliable – was loved by the opposition, and in fact scored half of his tries for them, and Noah, yet again, tackled everything that moved: opposition players, parents, the referee etc.

In summary: another great morning and another great win. Very wet though.

Awards:
Parents’ Man Of The Match – Lukus
Coaches’ Man Of The Match – Kian
Top Tackler – Max
Most Passes – Jack
Top Try Scorer - Sonny
