Wigan 2nds

Paul Blan16 Nov 2010 - 20:26

Unbeaten home run continues.

Wigan 2nds made it 7 home wins from 7 home games. As they managed to beat Leigh 3rds.

The game started well for Wigan as Lithuanian utility player Evaldas scored in the corner. The try was given as a penalty try as he was high tackled while scoring. Making the kick easy for James Davies to slot over, on his first game for the 2nd team this season. The team featuring three players making their first appearances for the 2nd team, all three players Josh Wincot, James Davies and Martin Cowap coming from the colts team from two years ago. Leigh 3rds got them selves on to the score sheet with a try in the corner. The half deteriorated for Wigan, trailing 19-10 at half times.

Making substitutions at the break Wigan looked to get themselves back in the game, and they did so with an early try from Josh Wincott, making it 19-17. The score stayed like this for a while, until tom Wilson dived over from a penalty to put Wigan in the lead 22-19. With the game close player-coach Warren Clough decided to put himself on to try and keep the defence solid. Making an impact straight away with some solid running and hard hitting defence and lightening fast passing of the ball.
The game remained tight, until Josh Wincott popped up again to give Wigan the win. This was another good home win for the 2nd team over their fierce rivals Leigh Rufc.
