Funeral details

We are very saddened to announce the death of Vinnie Kirk, at the age of 73.
Vinnie came to Wigan RUFC from John Rigby Grammar School and served the club over many years.
He didn't have the biggest physical presence on the field but had a fearsome reputation as a hard tackling centre. He was uncompromising on the pitch, where winning was key, but off the pitch was one of the friendliest and warmest people you could meet. Vinnie would greet countless visitors to the club with a wry smile and a warm hand.
Vinnie played into his 40's and after retiring the jersey he went on to run touch for the first XV. As we all expected, Vinnie took his role very seriously and wouldn't be swayed by an often vociferous crowd.
Vinnie was a true rugby man and would talk with great authority on both codes. He loved every element of the game and revelled in the lengthy discussions in the clubhouse afterwards.
One of Vinnie's favourite activities would be to visit Twickenham with his friends and take in the atmosphere around the ground before the match. He would recount many stories of these trips over the years, with a little extra added each time of telling. Folk at HQ knew that Vinnie was in town as they watched him sweep across the West Stand Car Park in his famous flying jacket and Fedora.

We have lost a true and dear friend in the passing of Vinnie Kirk and Douglas Valley won't ever be quite the same. God Bless Vinnie and Rest In Peace.

Funeral details - Vince's funeral will take place at St Mary's, Standishgate on Friday 2nd October @ 1330hrs.
Due to current restrictions the service and reception will be restricted to family and close friends. Friends are invited to line the street outside of the church prior to the service.
