Wigan RUFC reflect on the passing of young starlet

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the untimely passing of Samson Price at the weekend. Samson was part of the Lancashire Cup U15’s winning team 2018. As a player and team member he was always a great character, intelligent player and an all-round great lad. Everyone at the club who played, trained and went on tour with him will have lots of fond memories to remember him by.

His Captain and team mate, Sam Parker penned the following tribute;
“Samson Price, I don’t think any words could fully describe how much of a fun, brave, proud and loving person he was. The impact he had on a team was immense. I’m proud to say I played alongside such a brilliant lad.

One moment that comes to mind when I think of Samson, is playing in the Lancashire Cup final, battling through tough conditions and a tough opponent he ran the ball through the other team like a man possessed. His effort put Wigan in the lead and made the whole team see the light at the end of what seemed to be a very long tunnel.

Samson was willing to leave his everything on the pitch, he wore his heart on his sleeve and for that I am forever inspired.

Samson was more than just a team mate he was a brother, he meant so much to so many people. We will always remember the many times where he made us smile or made us feel happy. He had a smile that could light up a room and that will forever be in our hearts.

He will truly be missed by us all. Its times like these that give us pause for reflection. We should cherish our loved ones, tell your friends and family you love them because today is a gift and tomorrow isn’t a given.

My heart goes out to his loving and wonderful family. He is a credit to you all.

Fly high my Brother, keep smiling and continue to make us all proud.”

The thoughts of Wigan Rugby Union are with his Mum, Rosanna, Dad, Samson Snr and sister Atlanta. RIP Samson you will be missed.

With thanks to Phil Hulme and Sam Parker.
