Youth conquers experience as young Wigan side take the spoils

Wigan travelled to Littleborough in the latest round of the ADM Division 2 competition. Wigan, flying high in the league, were looking for revenge after a narrow loss in the cup at the start of the season.
Wigan made a bright start with an attacking lineout just insides the Boro half. The maul set and trundled down the hill until the ball was played out to Luke Sutcliffe who opened the scoring for the Wigan side. Danny Cassidy added the conversion.
Indiscipline in the Wigan ranks was set to cost the away side throughout the afternoon and Littleborough were awarded their first in a series of penalties on 10 minutes to take the score to 3-7.
Wigan looked to attack out wide time after time but it took a deft chip over the top from Danny Cassidy to turn the defence. Jack Proffitt collected and went over for a try in the corner. Cassidy converted the try from the touchline. 3-14.
Boro kicked two penalties and Wigan kicked one of their own to take the scores to 9-17 at the half time break.
The game restarted in a stalemate and only a Boro penalty could break the deadlock in the first half an hour of the second half. Parker added a penalty for Wigan to take the game two scores beyond at 12-20.
Wigan were in the ascendancy now as Boro tired. Chris Carr made a break from number 8 down the blind side, running over the top of defenders. He managed to lay the ball up to Cassidy who took the ball into the 22 and popped the ball up out of the tackle to Harry Barker who went over for the score. Cassidy converted the try for a 12-27 lead.

Boro came away with a consolation try and conversion to finish the game 19-27.

Wigan welcome Hoylake to Douglas Valley this Saturday 9th November with kick off scheduled for 2.15pm.
