Congratulations to Des Seabrook on winning the prestigious 2017 Rugby Union Sports Writers Award

Des has been awarded the Tankard for 'Unsung Stalwart of the Game' for his lifetime contribution to rugby union.

Des has, for many years, been an incredible champion and ambassador for the sport of Rugby Union in Wigan. As a former Orrell player and club captain Des forged their rise to the pinnacle of the national game where he made Orrell an ever-present in the top flight (until the advent of the professional game) and dramatically increased the profile of Rugby Union across Wigan.

Des has coached nationally for England, famously coached the North of England to victory over the mighty All Blacks in 1979 and was long term head coach at Lancashire.

For the past few years Des has been an inspirational figure within the Wigan RUFC Junior section, where his vast knowledge and experience has helped the U14's team to the top of the Lancashire leagues, along the way developing many young Wigan players into potential rugby stars of the future.

Congratulations on your achievements in the sport Des the award is much deserved.
